part number
« on: March 24, 2020, 05:54:36 PM »
I was on loneoceans web site and was reading again, the clip below. The article referenced two Fair Rite cores. The first core Fair-rite 5977006401 type 77, no problem finding that one. The next one referenced he says is the 5000-1 Fair-Rite. That is the one I can not find, any insight on the part number...? Thanks for any help

IGBT with a 1N5819 and 5.1R gate resistor per IGBT. It is important to select a suitable ferrite core, and this was tested by wrapping several turns of test wire on it, and checking its output with a square input from a signal generator at around 60 to 70 kHz. The output should be as square looking as possible (as can be seen on the right photo with the input being a square wave). The current transformers were also made, giving a 1023:1 step down ratio. Cores used were the Fair-Rite 5977006401 Type 77 and 5000-1 Fair-Rite cores. Note that I stacked them to reduce the number of cores.

It does not have to be the exact type or manufacturer, you can use a wide selection of ferrite cores.

This is the one you can find data on: https://www.fair-rite.com/product/toroids-5977006401-2/

Notice the electrical properties:
Code: [Select]
AL(nH) 2700 ±25%
and the mechanical:
Code: [Select]
Dim mm mm tol nominal inch inch misc.
Outer 25.4 ±0.60 1 _
Inner 15.5 ±0.50 0.61 _
Thick 12.7 ±0.50 0.5 _

Find any core of similar size and made from a material with a AL value around 2000-5000 and it will work fine.
