Designing half bridge SSTC with parts I have
« on: December 18, 2019, 10:45:18 PM »
So this is what I came up with. Any obvious issues or suggestions?

Non-coiler here.

Was about to say: put the current transformer on AC-grounded side of main primary coil.

But I guess C1 and C2, at 150 nF, resonate with the primary coil inductance.
Will that node have more RF voltage on it than the Q1-Q5 end?  Lots more?

Much has been written about electrostatic shielding of current transformers.  Is that meaningful in SSTC land?

I might have forgotten to put the diodes across the MOSFETs

I think you should read this thread: https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?topic=840.0

There is some things to learn there about rebuilding the SSTC circuit from antenna to current transformer.

Here is another non-coiler's observation about current transformer feedback.

Reference the recent thread Mads pointed to, particularly the post with whole TC schematics:
https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?topic=840.msg5635#msg5635

First half-bridge circuit, with antenna feedback, has the resonant capacitor on unswitched side of primary coil.  Both ends of primary coil have RF voltage present.  If you put a CT there, need to be wary of the capacitively-coupled signal at phase 90° different from the current.

Second half-bridge, with CT feedback, has resonant capacitor on the switched side of primary coil.
The low side, where current transformer is placed, has no RF voltage with respect to "ground".
