Small 65Kv X Ray Transformer hosuing build
« on: December 14, 2019, 10:52:49 PM »
Hi All ,

Just wanted to share the small project I have worked on for a while now , my goal was to make small cases for the few x ray transformers I have so I can safely run them .

The transformer in use here is rated 230V Primary and 65Kv @ 8mA secondary .

The housing is made from  150 x 150 x 3mm aluminium box section , I tig welded a base and cut and welded the flange on the top .

Lid is made from polycarbonate , feed throughs are 16mm Diameter pure PTFE ( Teflon ) rods with a 3mm copper bar though the centre , this is then held in place to the lid with a nylon cable gland , both having a tight fit to minimize gaps  .

Transformer was vacuumed for 4 days under slight vibration in transformer grade mineral oil , The box is lined with 2mm Teflon sheet to help improve insulation between the case and wires .

Overall it turned out well : )

Hi
it's a nice project, I've a few questions:

what brand of tig welder did you use ?  (because I plan to weld aluminum to make xfmr case and others projects)
and where did you find this small transformer ?  :)

Thanks : ) ,

I have an oxford tig welder , I haven't used it much but its nice .

The transformer was from a small x ray head , they show up now and then online .
