Using R/C motors as 3 phase generators.
« on: July 31, 2019, 01:39:51 AM »
Ive really been looking in to 1/8 scale motors, which I have 2 to experiment with. But unlike alternators that can be regulated via field coil intensity the motors are fixed and must vary with great complexity between natural volts per Kv and current from a rising or falling electrical load.

So can I let a wise fixed gear ratio and buck/boost PS to smooth out the apparent impedance and current throttle posistion ? Have the SMPS be the CVT transmission so to speak.

Is this possible ?

Hi Patrick

I guess this is the principle behind regenerative breaking as this is done via the same motor as propulsion in electric cars, and the load behind the converter should also vary quite widely upon the driving conditions... maybe you'll find some papers on that

I also need to test some ideas on 3 phase generators for bike power, but this is maturing in my head, no time for that right now :(
