Refreshment of rechargeable batteries?
« on: November 19, 2017, 01:30:41 PM »
Two rechargeable batteries, one NiCd battery D and one NiMH battery C
can not be recharged after 2 years of very moderate use:

Both batteries were used in two different groups of each four identical batteries of the same type.
The three others of each group still work perfectly.

Now my question:

Please who knows successful refreshment procedures of such batteries from personal experience?

Well, I see that you have asked for "personal experience"----

I have personal experience with Ni-cads.   I used to read a lot about reviving them by completely discharging them at a certain low rate about (1/10th C) until they are completely dead, to "erase" their partial charging memory.  It seemed to help some, but only in the short term.

I have had some NiMH cells go bad, too.

But----- I think it's simply time to bite the bullet and get a couple of new ones.

I note that neither of them is from a well known (to me at least) manufacturer or private label company.   Maybe you have simply discovered that those brands have a 25% failure rate.  Maybe the seller tossed used ones into the sets that you originally ordered.  I have read that in some countries, that is not even considered to be an underhanded thing to do.
