Popped two IRFP460s while testing at 325V
« on: October 25, 2020, 11:25:26 PM »

It also fried both MOSFET drivers (somehow through the GDT) and charred one of the gate resistors.

I guess I'll add a few turns to the primary to increase reactance. I'll also add those gate resistor bypass diodes.

Sorry to hear of the part failures.

Inductance from half-bridge to bulk cap could also be an issue.  I see the 3300uF 400V cap close to the FETs, but it looks like wiring loops around to connect the cap to half-bridge.  Short wires reduces inductance and associated voltage spikes during switching.  A film capacitor soldered directly to the half-bridge VBus pins also helps (low-side source to high-side drain).

Hmm I'm not sure I'll be able to put them any closer. I barely succeeded in cramming everything into the PSU enclosure. I'll try and see of I can turn the MOSFETs around.
