Secondary parameters

Hello. I know that I am new and this is the 3th post that I have opened but I think it doesn´t fix in the others. I have also searched but I didn´t find anything in the forum.

I am going to build a new secondary coil to use with a simple slayer exciter because with only 19 volts I have fried a router and in the kitchen, the induction stove started doing strange thinks. Maybe, in the future, I will use with a half bridge, but now I am alittle scared and I preffer low power...

I have read this article http://kaizerpowerelectronics.dk/tesla-coils/drsstc-design-guide/secondary-coil/ and I think I have to use 40mm PVC pipe and 0,1mm cooper wire. The number of turns must be between 1460-1830, but the article is focused in DRSSTC and I am not sure if that parameters are OK for a single transistor SSTC.

I said that because in some places I read that above 1.200 turns the coil loss efficiency. What do you think?

You are correct that SSTCs generally have lower ratio between width:height of the secondary coil.

You can use the guide lines for sizes, but keep to a ratio of 1:3 instead and you will have a lower impedance coil that still needs a high coupling to the primary coil.

I think your noise issues has much more to do with lack of grounding your secondary coil to a separate RF ground.

Yes, I know I need to ground the coil, but with the quarantine it is difficult. Next week I´m going to buy a big metal tray to connect to ground and put the coil over it.

I am not sure about understanding your answer. Are you recomending me to keep a lower ratio like 1:3? For example 1.200 turns? I´m sorry, I´m learning English and sometimes is difficult to me.

I have been busy with my student´s exams.

I read the article again and I understood the meaning of the ratio, so the secondary has 1.058 turns of 0,1 mm wire. 4 cm diameter 12 cm hihg. I have enjoyed a lot winding that thin wire! But it was easier than I thought



I tried running it with this slayer exciter circuit

Running with 12V give 1 or 2 cm arcs



I have tried different slayer exciter circuits and this one have gave me the best results, but Do you know a better option for a Slayer exciter circuit?


I made this small topload with beer cans and bass bolts.



The question is: Is important that the top load is very close of the top of the coil or it doesn´t matter if is 3 or 4 cm from the last turns?


EDITED: I have been reading and I have realised that a lsayer exciter won't be enough. But before star building more complex circuits I would like to understand the physics and theory of the tesla coils, resonant frequency, tunning, etc...

Can anybody recommend me a good source. I have a  little knowledge about electricity and electronics. For example I know how works resonance with coils and capacitors.

Meanwhile I will keep experimenting with the slayer exciter

Yes, I have read the article of toploads. This is why I have used brass bolts. I think I have to read it again slowly.

Thank you for the SSCT link from loneoceans, but I preffer start with low voltages like 20 or 30 DCV instead conect to the AC outlet.
