It might help to discourage the simplistic idea
that total energy is more important than all other variables together.
Even if an efficient disk launcher doesn't need as much rocket science as a good Tesla coil.

People on a path to become engineers should embrace challenges
like _measuring_ the height and width of current pulse that vaporized some foil.
At least attempt to predict it. 
Or measure the residual voltage in capacitor bank, from which you can figure the area under curve.
