i'm also hoping they work and get a decent running life. i ended getting 4 euro off each brick! as for shipping..... we aussies are a custom to paying a lot! in my opinion one of our main postal services (auspost) are the biggest joke going, but i could go on all night about them!

i'll have to re-read your drsstc thread, i would love to get around 2m streamers but i may be limited..... unless i do full power runs at the front of my house!

Imagine 2 pendulums of the same length hanging beside each other. They both have the same oscillating frequency. Now connect the pendulums with a weak spring. The spring is a form of coupling. You will then have 2 oscillating modes, one mode, where the pendulums swing parallel and another mode, where they swing opposite to each other. The parallel mode has the original frequency, but the opposite mode has a somewhat higher frequency, dependent on the strength of the spring.

Coupled tanks in a TC show the same behaviour. The different modes and their frequencies can be characterised by the phases of the currents and voltages of the tanks relative to each other. For some phases the restoring forces (as in a pendulum) in the system become "stiffer", leading to a higher frequency and for other phases it becomes"looser", resulting in a lower frequency.

Generally both modes are excited and the mixture of 2 different frequencies shows up as beats.

Your measurements all look fine for themselves. I just can't make them to fit to the coupled system measurement. Possibly its the new topload or some influence of the primary (capacitive or whatever) on your secondary alone mesurement.

I think this form factor is called "modular snubber capacitor".

If I am willing to live with 170 volts, could I get away with just rectifying the mains with a full-bridge and using the unsmoothed mains voltage for the bus?  Of course, there would be a 120 Hz hum on the coil, but it might improve the power factor by drawing power at the peak of the voltage on the AC.

Along the same lines, making the interrupter synchronized to the AC waveform in the wall so that it activates during the increasing magnitude voltage part of the AC cycle could possibly even out the current drawn from the wall as well, so that the current is drawn better over the entire AC cycle.  It's all about getting the coil to draw current in phase with the voltage, right?

Price, low thermal impedance and past success all suggest going for the 60N60 (or the equivalent FGA60N65SMD if cheaper). FGY75N60SMD is also an option for slightly higher current (I have a thread about some very cheap ones I got from aliexpress).
