Kaizer DRSSTC1 bridge failure and repair, caught on video.

My first DRSSTC had a unfortunate and not-so-dramatic failure. I suspect in-adequate grounding from the coils grounding bar to ground to be the culprit, I will know more once I take the old bridge apart.

Silent death during a MIDI playback, once power is turned back on, the bridge short circuits and burns outs. I quickly changed it to a SKM200GB123 inverter bridge that I had around, built for another experimental project, hence why its a little crude.

It took 3-4 evenings/nights to locate all the faults, replace parts and get it running again. I am happy.

I was contemplating to run it at 600A OCD setting, where the 60N60 ran at 500A. The SKM200 will properly do higher just fine, but it is really not needed for this coil.

I can tell from my own experience, that the SKM200 Bricks are very robust. I once accidentally pushed them to 1300A at 120BPS and 250µs Ontime with imperfect ZCS before they failed after 30 seconds. Right now, i am running 4 SKM200GB128D Bricks in my DRSSTC with 2 Bricks in parallel at 1100A.

I was gonna say that my SKM200GB125Ds were fine at ~750A or so (might have hit 800, was a while ago so forget exactly).

Dang... Sucks to have blown but at least you finally upgraded the bridge! Keen to see what it can do now!
