Magnifier tesla coil

Hey enthousiast!

So ive been working on a magnifier setup the last couple of weeks.
Wich was actually fun most of the time.

The coil is powered by 2x NST 8kv@25mA and is protected by a lowpass filter.

Setup was created from multiple coils.
Main resonator is resonant at 375khz.
The secundairy is a ¼ wave length coil to the main resonator, this coil consists of 3 flat pancake coils.
And the primary is tuned to arround 358khz.


Primary former and secundairy coils
Secundairy coils made of 0.75mm² wire and have 36 turns for each flat coil.


Main resonator
Fres = 375khz
960 turns 0.2mm wire of a 75mm form for 19.2cm
150mm x 37.5mm topload


Making the primary coil
Primary is made from 5mm brake line tubing and has a total of 10 turns on the form

Mmc bank 10.5kvac @ 20nF
15x 100nF@700vac in series with 3 strings total for 20nF capacitance


Magneticly quenced sparkgap with neodimium magnets

You do nice work. Very cool coil. If you have the time you should try a rotary spark gap. For my coils it really helped the performance.

Yeah i wanna go that route. Not sure yet how it will perform without a synchronous motor though.
Any thoughts?
Would it be easier to make a dc coil maybe?

Changed the topload for a step bigger on the resonator.
And added terminal capacitance to the secundairy coil.
Spark seem more fluid and bigger now

Hi Acid Byte. I would start out with a asynchronous system. Just get a small DC motor and vary the voltage to the motor when the coil is running. Find the sweet spot! Then if you have the time you can build a sync system.

Yeah so thats what i build and will be testing for this weekend 😃
And yes i hope the async will do some nice stuff.
Can vary it anywhere from 10bps to 1000 bps

Any chance in knowing what it will do with primary tuning?

Looks good Acid Byte. Primary tuning with new RSG ?? Any time I make any change to the primary I see the tuning change. So check it.
