Almost finished DRSSTC 5ft arcs!

A while back I mentioned that I was working in some new coils. I just pretty much finished one of the coils in my twin system and have got some pretty respectable results so far. The coil makes 5ft arcs at the moment running on 140VAC 80us at 650A (around 390VDC bus).

The inverter consists of a full bridge of CM300DU-24NFH that I got for free with a voltage doubler. MMC is 3s 3p 0.44uF 3000VDC 60A Dawncaps. Secondary is around 69cm long and the coil operates at about 65-70kHz. The primary is just under 7 turns of 1/4" copper tubing tapped at just under 6 turns. Driver is a UD2.7C. Overall it took about 3 months to complete the first coil and only 2 days to get it from first light to this. I have more details and pictures on my website https://www.allscience.ca/drsstc-3

Looks good! BTW when you get pissed off with denting the aluminium ducting toroid every time you look at it wrong, invest in some stainless single walled flu-liner - it's not indestructible but will shrug off something that would totally crumple the aluminium stuff.

It only gets warm at 650A, but when running it at 900A on 240V, it gets kinda hot after a few minutes.

Did the first twin test yesterday. It performed quite well. I was running on 240V with a 900A OCD.

Next time I'll run them outside so I don't mess with anything. I think I killed the garage door on the right.
I'll also upgrade the interrupter since I'm using 2 separate ones at the moment.
