Part identification for a Esab Es300i renegade Machine
« on: January 03, 2023, 02:33:10 AM »
Hi all I’m new to the forum and need some help fixing a Esab renegade Es300i machine that the “ customer service” is telling me it can’t be fix, I will describe the problem: the machine is missing 2 parts that I only know that are orange or red in color they are round and square in shape I found a picture of a similar machine and google the parts like for 5 days and I think I found the parts well I’m looking at 2 that I think are the ones to use, but I will like to ask here  if I’m correct I took some measurement of the space that the parts will fit on and the contact legs I will post some pictures of the machine and parts, thank you all !
Picture one is a picture I found of another machine showing the parts that are missing on my machine
Picture 2 is my machine whit the space of the missing parts

This are the 2 parts that  I found thanks to google and because of the dimension on the drawing, I just don’t know of the schematic diagram is the proper one to use

Hi agguilar and welcome to HVF!

The components marked are Gate Drive Transformers. They transfer the energy from the IGBT driver circuit, to the gates of the IGBT brick (the large white transistors on heat sink).

That long black seam of glue? Did you break the PCB in two and lost the components that way?

You could buy any similar sized Gate Drive Transformer or you could properly get away with winding your own from a suitable ferrite ring core and CAT5 network cable, like we use for Tesla coils, scroll down to 25th September 2009 in this article about one of my builds and how I made the GDT: https://kaizerpowerelectronics.dk/tesla-coils/kaizer-drsstc-i/

Thank you so much Mads Barnkob the link is amazing lots of great info, and yes te board was broken in 2 parts and the components were not inside the machine, they were missing only the mounting legs were still solder to the board; I glue the board back looking at the trace diagram putting under the light to see true the board and it was ok to glue the board no traces were in the way.
Thank you for the  identification of the parts now one other question which one is the correct one to use I’m looking at the parts diagram and I’m seeing 2 different diagrams can you let me know if they are the same or I have to use a specific one, I will upload the pictures.
Picture one is the crack board
Picture 2 and 3 is the parts diagram that I don’t know which one to use base on the application
Thank you !

While the connection schematic of both components look different, they are actually the same. Even the phasing dots follow the same legs numbers.

BUT, pay close attention to the difference in ratio between primary and secondary side. One is a trigger transformer with a ratio of primary 1 to secondaries 1,3 and 1,3. The other is a gate drive transformer has a ratio of primary 44 to secondaries 15 and 15.

Trying with the trigger transformer first is the safe way, as you will not inject a too high voltage into the gate circuit. But it does just look like a passive gate resistor/capacitor/diode network, so its most likely a gate drive transformer.

Thank you so much ! :) so it is much safer to use the “ trigger transformer” X072 ? Other question is this “ trigger transformer” a gate drive transformer as you mention ? I just found this to parts because of the similarities in the pictures and in the dimensions on the board but don’t know if I’m wrong whit this parts and need to find a gate drive transformer as you mention that will look like the parts I’m missing. I will upload a picture of the service manual

It would be safer in the manner of experimenting with one or the other type. My best guess is that it is a gate drive transformer, not the trigger transformer.

Do you have any welder repair or service shop near you? Potentially they have old written off / destroyed machines with the same parts. Or if you are very lucky the same model machine as parts machine, maybe able to cannibalize the GDT from them
