I found a old 3.5" floppy drive cleaning kit and tried it out on a defective computer/floppy drive/floppy that I had. It would constantly ruin "new" disks and leave them with few kb of useful space.

I would have thought the issue would be head misalignment, rather than dirt. Did your drive work better after using the cleaning disk?

No and you are right, the drive is most likely defective, it was more a gimmick to try out this cleaning product that I got with some other old computer stuff

My parents had the CD-ROM equivalent of this, had little brushes embedded into the CD.

It also didn't work...
