Want to learn about electronics, not sure what to do next?  If you want to make any kind of decent high voltage, you'll definitely want to learn how to build and use circuits that work first. Otherwise how will you ever learn what you're doing wrong?

Colin Mitchell's Talking Electronics is filled with no-nonsense practical explanations; a good start to learning without getting bogged in math from the beginning:
http://www.talkingelectronics.com/te_interactive_index.html
Of note is The Transistor Amplifier series which taught me how to use transistors effectively.

The website of the late Tony vanRoon is packed with excellent tutorials and circuits.  It's now hosted by his son Mike.
http://www.tonyvanroon.com

Sam Goldwasser's Repair FAQ site has information collated all the way back from the days of Usenet.  Contains lots of information about repairing electronic devices and appliances, plus lots of other fun things, including high voltage circuits.  Most importantly,  he has plenty of practical information about safety.
http://www.repairfaq.org

Manfred Mornhinweg runs Home Ludens, and he has plenty of interesting electronic projects documented.  Most useful are the testing tools he creates and explains how they work, so you can understand what's going on.  His detailed explanations on Control Loops is also the best I've found so far:
http://ludens.cl/Electron/Electron.html

Other fun sites I've found that have excellent information:

Peter Terran has built some amazing Tesla coils and has lots of information about designing, building and understanding them.
http://tesladownunder.com

Gao Guangyan has also built some exceptional Tesla coils and other projects as well.  Lots of documentation, circuits and explanations about what's going on.  The voltages coming out of the smaller coils is insane!
http://loneoceans.com/labs/

Mike Harrison has Mike's Electric Stuff.  Plenty of HV fun to be had here, plus he's always pulling something big and expensive apart:

Thanks for the addition. The website of Tony VanRoon seems incredible broken, so I left it out of the list.

I've written a few oddball ones myself:
https://www.seventransistorlabs.com/Calc/
Also links to other useful ones.  For example, the hamwaves solenoid calculator is highly recommended: much better than the old Wheeler formula. :)

Thanks for the links!

I am aware that my own helical coil calculator is not that precise, but in a hobby where heavy detuning that is impossible to simulate occurs, "Turn it up till it blows up, repair it and turn 25% down", "Everything within -3db is fine!" or "Everything below 10A is leakage current" then it will do :) A calculator like JavaTC also uses much better calculations for the secondary coil.

I think this is a really nice description of ZVS, ZCS, and the pitfalls associated with switching of power FETs.
