We just got our first mortgage, and i have my first shed !

It's a metal shed, i insulated it with bubble aluminium and expanded polystyrene, then framed it in wood and made walls from oriented strand board.

Power is currently via a long 4-way extension, internet is wired.

Finally i can start the experiments i've been planning for over a year !

Congratulations on your first lab!

One huge and important advice, you need to waste money on keeping that heated and ventilated. Moisture will be your biggest problem here. Even in my unheated work shop (garage) I see tools rusting over time due to changing temperatures, but it is well ventilated.

My base laboratory had problems with high air moisture and it has certainly killing some old capacitors in my old instruments Moisture ingress is a real problem.

I have a Chinese diesel heater in there which i tested and works very well, cheaper than electricity.

The pipes are for fume extraction for the printers and laser cutter, next step is to add an intake vent at the door end.

This morning i managed to ruin two ignition coils and 1 flyback, so a good start ;+}

I have a dehumidifier set to keep relative humidity at 40%. Steel will not rust at that level. It also keeps mold from growing.

I threw out my old humidifier just a few weeks ago, didn't think i'd need it again after holding onto it for 18 months and girlfriend moaning about it being in the cupboard under the stairs :/
