DRSSTC PCB pack release includes UD2.9 skip pulse gerbers
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:30:24 AM »
Hello,

I am releasing the DRSSTC PCB pack.  This includes the UD2.9 skip pulse gerbers, as well as PCBs for interrupters and bridge boards.  These boards are all less than 10 by 10 cm and so can be made for $5 from many PCB houses (not including shipping).  If you get many boards made at once, you can spread the cost of the shipping over these boards.

Boards included:

1)   UD2.9 skip pulse
2)   UD2.7 conventional board (without skip pulse)
3)   UD3.1 that uses the PSoC5 CYC8KIT
4)   Half Bridge with 2 transistors and a place for a capacitive divider for the other side of the bridge, and a place for RC snubbers on each transistor
5)   Half Bridge with 8 transistors (4 on each LO/HI side)
6)   Full bridge with 4 transistors and a place for RC snubbers on each transistor
7)   Full Bridge with 8 transistors (2 on each LO/HI side, two half bridges)
8)   Burst interrupter with external triggering
9)   AC line interrupter, includes a spot for the ATTINY85 to implement the OneTesla tiny USB interrupter.

These are all made with kicad, so you can modify them as you need to (kicad is open source software).

Dan

Thank you for the massive contribution. looking forward to see what coils people (myself included) will build with this release.

Hello,

I made a small change to the PCB pack.  The burst interrupter now includes the MIDI USB interrupter as well, for those who don't want to have to try my experimental interrupter to get the MIDI USB capability.  Of course, you don't have to add the chip to the board if you don't want it.  If you get a AVR ISP you can plug it into the interrupter board and program the ATTINY85 chip and have a combination burst/standard/audio triggered/MIDI interrupter that should be good for all kinds of stuff.

The revised DRSSTC PCB pack is attached.

Corrected versions of DRSSTC pcb pack
« Reply #4 on: June 01, 2018, 04:24:46 PM »
Hello,

I have a new version of the PCB pack with some minor fixes.

1.   I built the UD3 driver, but I found that some of the components get in the way of plugging the USB into the target board, so I moved around some of the components to allow for better access to the usb connector.

2.  I built the line interrupter.   It works, but I had to tweak a couple of component values.  It is possible that interrupting on the AC could cause a lot of noise for other devices on the circuit.  However, it does seem that it allows for more power to be drawn, perhaps indicating a better power factor.  This requires more study.

3.  The two interrupters contain a USB MIDI interrupter on them that may be optionally populated if you want a combined test/sound/MIDI interrupter.  I have included the compiled project so that the ATTINY85 microcontroller can be programmed, including source code because the code is open source.  It required a few tweaks and updates to work on more modern versions of avr-gcc, which is one reason why I included it.  The fuse bits on the ATTINY85 have to be set as given in the flashing.txt file, and then you can program the microcontroller, both using avrdude.

Hi Dan

I build the interrupter with normal, burst, audio and USB MIDI options. Left out the MIDI for now as I got so many others.

The input voltage range of the LM339 is Vcc -2V at worst, so when I want to run the whole board at 5V, that leaves me with only 0-3V audio input range, what is it currently designed to take with the 9-12V supply voltage?

Yes, I designed it to take a 9-12 V supply.  But I think it should still work at 5 V.  The threshold for audio input to trigger a pulse is the voltage drop of a Schottky diode, about 0.2 V, high enough above the rail to work reliably.  Everything else is triggered to a threshold voltage created by the voltage divider of R8/R9.  If you are having problems, decrease R8 from 10k to perhaps 6.8k so it is well below the LM339 common-mode limit.

Yeah, I agree, all ICs are specified to work at 5V, so that is not a problem.

Did you mean R8, at input of first op-amp and R9 at output at second op-amp?

Other things I noticed:
- that 0-280'ish us on-time is working, so tweaking a bit for higher on-time is properly needed, but not really important right now.
- BPS can not go high enough, so I guess it goes past the threshold of maximum on-time and its cut off. Around 300 BPS it just goes to 0 BPS, so I think changing R3 from 6K8 to 10K will prevent it from getting over the tipping point, a little more minimum resistance in that RC timing.

Hi,

The UD2.9 BOM seems to be missing parts? I don't see the TL3116 on it, for instance? Is this intentional, or...?
