Originally I wanted to build Profdc9’s full bridge inverter, I also wanted to build it using parts listed in the BOM, I even filled a shopping cart at Mouser with all the necessary parts - about $120 worth...

Then the power and gas bills came together... 

So, because I have to act as a responsible adult (BORING), hobby has to wait for funding to be available again.

Then I remebered that I have some bits n pieces left over from my first SSTC attempt that might work together to make a functioning bridge using Profdc9’s full bridge PCB.

I have:
- 4 IRFP460 FETs
- 4 MUR860 Fast Diodes
- 4 WIMA MKP10 0.68uF 630V Polypropylene Caps

I think that there is enough parts here to make a circuit based on Steve Ward’s mini SSTC half bridge inverter, but full bridge instead and using above mentioned PCB.
Maybe my thinking is wrong, but to me it looks like just a matter of doubling the number of the components, and of course driving the FETS in the correct sequence.

Drive would be provided by Profdc9’s SSTC Driver.

So far I mounted the parts together, not exacly as one would expect, but if everything works well I reckon it will make a neater build.

I cannot figure a couple things, one is due to inexperience in interpreting component data sheets:

1. What is the maximum Gate voltage on IRFP460 - I gather its about 10V but not sure
2. GDT from the driver outputs about 34V peak to peak, which is way too high for IRFP460,   
    how do you bring the voltage down so it can be handled by the gate ? Only way I can think of is
    changing primary to secondary winding ratio.

I’d appreciate if someone could help with this - even if you tell me that this contraption will never work the way I imagined.

Image 3 Build so far - TVS diodes are bent like that because I wanted to put them under the board, but later realised it wouldn’t work 
Image 4 This way FETS get a huge heatsink that can later serve as a base for the coil - of course keeping in mind that the transistors must be isolated from the heatsink, otherwise there will be a lot of angry Pixies in that sink, waiting to bite.

Well, I just could not sit still after giving up on my last project, so I decided to have a go at building a Universal DRSSTC Driver 2.7C.
I never soldered SMD before, so I was a bit doubtful of my skills, but it turns out that it is quite easy even with an el-cheapo USB Microscope.
It took quite a few hours, I did not want to rush, still I had to take 2 components off because I put them wrong way around ( removing components without a hot air gun is not easy ).
Lag from the camera was giving me sea sickness 😁, but I got there.
Board is completed except for a few Build/IGBT specific components - I still do not know what IGBT’s to use on my coil ( I decided to convert my current TC to solid state ).
I did not even power up my board to test  because I do not have an interrupter to do a complete test.

Are these any good, or is there anything more suitable ?

First I would like to mention that I am aware that I am starting a new thread straight after a thread based on the same design, which could be considered as Double Posting. So I leave it up to the admin to allow it or not.

Anyway, after successfully building a SRSG Coil a few years ago, I decided to have a go at building a SSTC because it will allow me to experiment without a noisy spark gap, also everything is smaller and easier to handle.

For my first attempt I chose Steve Ward's Mini SSTC Design, it looks simple enough and easy to understand.
My understanding of electronics is OK, should be sufficient to build this circuit, but please forgive me if I ask a "dumb" question ( I'm only dumb till I get an answer  )
Anyway, I built the circuit and powered up the low voltage side to see if anything will go pop, aaand to my delight, there was no pops !
I recently got myself a new digital scope to replace a very basic CRO which is at least 25 years old, so this is a perfect opportunity to put it to a good use so I had a poke around to see how things are buzzing.
There are a few things that I do not make sense, perhaps of my lack of understanding, perhaps there is a fault somewhere, so I decided not to give it a full test until I get some clarification.
I hope somebody will be able to help me out with this. I used this fantastic feature on my new scope to capture a few screen shots ( what a great feature !!! )

Image 1 shows output of the 555 timer, looks ok, but it gets bit wonky at higher frequency
Image 2 shows UCC37322 output, so far so good
Image 3 shows UCC37321 output - that looks weird, tried another ic, same result. I would like your opinion on this one
Image 4 shows input signal on Schmitt trigger - from my ancient function generator
Image 5 shows output signal from the Schmitt - it is Schmitting quite nicely I think
Image 6 shows output from the UCC37322 with Schmitt only connected 555 has been disconected

               expecting it to be...

GDT is built and it works quite well, I tested it as per the instructions on another page ( with a function generator and a scope ).
I dare not plugging this thing in, because I reckon something will burn unless I clear this up.
Any help will be appreciated.
