Title: DRSSTC music MIDI files
Post by: futurist on August 29, 2017, 07:39:25 PM
Since several people asked for (DR)SSTC MIDI files I thought it would be a good idea to have all of them at one place in case some get deleted

There is over 100 different songs and not all are playable, I tried ones posted by Benjamin at 4hv.org and bytecode77 of which almost all sound great
I'll maintain the list in this post if people add more files or links

oneTesla has a forum section dedicated for MIDI files and song requests

Cheers for the links. I'll make sure to store them on my Nas.

As it takes long time to make a unplayable midi playable i wont be offering this for every song.
But songs i like ill be willing to put time into these midi's to make them playable.
I must say "transforming" a midi file in such way could take up to 8 hours depending on how complex the song is. (it takes about an hour to do it fast but fine tuning the full midi takes so many damn hours.... ehehehehe)

I also have some MIDI that I have "prepared", but a thing that bothers me is that the different resonant frequencies of Tesla coils will make a difference in how it sounds? Or am I completely mistaken here?

So the same MIDI, prepared for single instrument, not too long notes etc, would not sound the same on my small 327 kHz coil compared to my large 37 kHz coil.

Title: MIDI-files for Tesla coils (polyphony)
Post by: NEYi on December 21, 2018, 07:07:46 PM
Hi! Couldn't find an appropriate topic on HV forum – so I'm creating my own. :)

Edited a couple dozen of MIDI-tracks for use with polyphonic interrupters(most have 2-4 notes playing simultaneously).
Grab them if you need, every track has two versions – for multi-coil playback and single-coil where every note is on single channel.

P.S. I'm pretty sure these are the first coil-compatible Daggerfall tracks out there, and I love that game. ;D
Yeah, I'll have more of these so let me know if you want them.

Thank you NEYi for sharing your prepared MIDI files, "take five" will come in use for a little show I will do in February, for a more mature audience I am sure that will work better than most modern music available in DRSSTC prepared MIDI :)

I converted the "Game of Thrones" theme to 2 channel MIDI for an event, here it is.

I've had an OneTeslaCoil for a few years and am planning to build a larger one. I have some midi and OMD files I haven't seen many others play along with accompanying videos. I have a few more files to rewrite and will post them as finished. Please reply if you want any files separated into two tracks currently they are only single Track Dule note for the OneTesla Coil.

Bet this would sound great on a tesla coil

@John123:

That particular MIDI is unfortunately no more available. However, I found another one that probably doesn't sound bad either:
Assuming a setup with 2 coils driven by Syntherrupter, I'd suggest one coil plays channels 3, 5 (optionally 7, too), and the other coil plays channels 2 and 4. The Syntherrupter staccato envelope (MIDI Program/Instrument 9) could give some nice effects.

Kind regards,
Max

I thought I'd just share my favourite collection of songs too. It contains both Midis and SIDs for the full chiptune experience ;)

The midis are probably pretty common so don't expect anything fancy (though there are one or two I haven't seen before), but I haven't seen a sid collection for tesla coils before :D

Here are some of the sids from the collection since the other posts have example clips in them too

How does it work with SID playback?
I saw that there is a new USB MIDI interupter that can support SID playback.
I currently use the mini midi controller on my coil, can SID playback work with these?

Im currently looking for Ghosts n stuff by Deadmau5, bangrang by Skrillex and Money for nothing by dire straits.
If anyone has these tunes, that would be awsesome!

Well there is actually, I am the guy that developed it ;)

You use a netsid compatible player and the pc software that comes with the interrupter. That emulates the MOS6581 SID chip and tells the midistick what it should output. That is unfortunately not compatible with any other interrupter (though the UD3 has its own sid mode).
