Great with some new tunes!

The Depeche Mode tracks suffer from being too muddy with too many notes going off all the time, I had a hard time making out the melody on Personal Jesus.

My favorite is Fanfare for the common man, it has the right mix of a bass rythm and a melody

I got a huge 350 MB MIDI archive, all kinds of MIDI, not many prepared for Tesla coils, but if you wanted a huge bunch of source material for editing? Its a 82 MB zip file here

Has there been much luck going beyond 2 notes on a single coil? I don't see any fundamental reason why it wouldn't work, but there may be practical matters at play - MIDI can be particularly power hungry!

One of the problems with Midi's on a Tesla Coil is that they tend to sound best where there is a main treble voice and a bass "counterpoint" but because the energy delivered by each pulse is about constant up to a certain note (around F5), really low frequencies (C2-C3) tend to have less volume because they have fewer beats per second than higher frequencies. 

As for a better midi controller.  I have been playing with the stm32duino lately STM32F103C8T6 (www.stm32duino.com) for another project I am doing in ham radio, and it has multiple timers and built-in USB.  The "Blue Pill" boards can be bought for as little as $2 to $3 USD on ebay, about the same price as the generic Arduino Nanos.  So it might be possible to do more than 2 voices with this, especially since it is a Cortex M3 at 72 MHz and has lots more processing power for perhaps finer control over the interrupting of the coil.  So perhaps some experimentation could be used to try to get more notes out of the coil without drawing too much power.  Anyways these little boards are worth checking out, because the stm32duino project has a pretty nice setup for programming them.
