DRSSTC PCB pack (draft)
« on: February 10, 2018, 09:06:10 PM »
Hello,

I have been working on some PCBs for DRSSTCs within the last couple of months or so.  They are laid out with the freely available Kicad software package:

http://kicad-pcb.org/

They are licensed under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0, so that even commercial use of the designs is permitted.

There are six designs:

1.   UD2.7C through-hole design, schematic, bill-of-materials, gerbers
2.   Interrupter design, schematic, bill-of-materials, gerbers, based on Steve Ward's burst mode interrupter
3.   My own SSTC/half bridge inverter design, schematic, bill-of-materials, gerbers
4.   Full-bridge layout for TO-247
5.   Half-bridge layout for TO-247
6.   Half-bridge layout for multiple TO-247s

I invite anyone interested to look at the designs and see if they are useful, and let me know if there are any mistakes.

Best,

Dan

well your eagle files are giving an error saying that start tag was expected

It is not for Eagle.  It is for Kicad, which is free software, so you can download it for free and look at it using that software.  I thought using Kicad would make it easier for those without Eagle to access, as it is not limited unlike the trial version of Eagle.

I found I was missing a capacitor in the interrupter, I have fixed the design.  I also widened the holes for 6-32 screws for the half-bridge/full-bridge boards.

I forgot to mention that all the boards but the interrupter board are all 10 by 10 cm footprint, with 9 by 9 cm hole spacing for M3, so they can be stacked together.

Thanks very much for sharing! I'll build your interrupter at some point, always wanted to have classic 555 one :)
I'm sure many people will like though-hole UD2 since Mads had many requests for his though-hole UD PCB

Thank you very much for making this available to everyone :)

I have been lazy and kept postponing tidying up my through-hole boards so that they were ready for public release, never happened and its been so many years now that I forgot about errors and tweaks needed :o

Did you build the burst-mode interrupter yet? I recall that I never got the burst-mode to work many years ago, properly a fault of my own, but maybe there is a fault in the schematic...

I have not build the interrupter yet.  I have checked Steve Ward's design and it seems fairly simple, including the burst mode, but I have not made it yet.  I am glad to make this available; I have learned a great deal about DRSSTC operation by examining these circuits and understanding how they work.

Mads, one request I have, if it is not a serious imposition, is that perhaps you could check the schematic of UD2.7C and make sure there's nothing out-of-place?  I have examined it as closely as I can, but one can often not see problems after one has examined something many times.

Anyways, I have attached a new version of the files, where I added a fourth transistor layout, with 8 TO-247 transistors in a full-bridge configuration.  I also added a spot for TVS diodes to all of the bridge layouts to prevent VCE overvoltage.  I also included a PNG of each board without components so that one can examine it to find where each component should be placed, that way you can have a printout of the bill of materials and the board in front of you when assembling.

Hello,

I have added another board to the PCB pack I am working on, and fixed a few minor things.

I wanted to make a version of the universal driver that requires minimal or exotic proprietary parts because through-hole parts are harder to find, so I mixed and matched UD2.7C and UD1.3B parts, keeping the phase lead, but taking out the TL3116/LT1016 type op-amp and putting back the 74HC14 so the hysteresis is not adjustable.  Also, I made the UVLO a LM311 comparator rather than a specialized chip.  The only more specialized part left is the TC4427/MAX4427/IR4427/UD27423, and TC4427s are available from many sources.  I removed the older OPF2412T module from the board, and added 4N28 optoisolator control in a region that is separated and insulated from the rest of the board.  I found a minor flaw in the interrupter which I have fixed.  I have attached a copy of the schematic, and an archive of the now eight boards.
