Varying Frequency of A slayer exciter

I am trying to build a slayer exciter circuit which operates at around 40kHz
for my current secondary coil which has 3cm radius, 10cm length and around 500 turns of 32 AWG wire, the output frequency is around 500kHz
I want to bring it down to 40kHz,how can I go about this?
will connecting a normal nf capacitor accross the output work?
