Hi Daniel

Welcome back! It is a pleasure to see you here on HVF!

I also have wife and two kids now, but still managed to keep a good 50 sq.m. of work shop / laboratory, the only problem is always running short on time :)

Really looking forward to see your coils running again and your other projects, you should make a thread about building up your hobby room!

Good to hear that you didn’t end up In an basement apartment in Odense meddling with electronics 24/7😊

I will make a thread about renovating/fixing my old garage and making my hobby room, space is a bit tight but I think it will work.

Cheers, Daniel

Hello all!

My name is Matt, from USA.

I am and automotive technician, but I have been interested in electronics since before elementary school! I have been playing with high voltage for about 15 years now. I have made many different Tesla coil's, from SGTCs, to DRSSTCs to VTTCs, and even an OLTC! I've made countless other high voltage projects such as fly back drivers etc. So far I have made about 100 videos for YouTube, some of them dating back to 13 years ago! (Username: triggerhappy77707)

I was very active on 4hv many years ago with the same alias, but now that it seems that it is defunct I am glad to find this website and see some similar names! I hope to be able to help others and contribute with posts of my own and help build the community!

Cheers, Matt

Hi Matt

Good to see a old familiar face here on HVF :)

I've seen your latest magnetron videos, been a subscriber for very long! It is nice to see that you use a faraday cage on it, not many people driving magnetrons take that care.

Hi everyone,

I am David from Switzerland. I am an embedded systems engineer for ultra low power devices.
Usually, I am thinking in microamperes. Now I would like to try something different by building a small DRSSTC.

As a start I chose to copy the oneTesla TS electronics from the data they show on their website.
I had no luck with this setup. Soft switching seems not to work as it should. Many blown IGBTs later, I am looking for help in this forum to find the problem - Thread coming soon ;).

Cheers
David

Thanks for the warm welcome, Mads! I am quite surprised that you still remember me, it must be nearly 10 years since 4hv! I certainly remember you though, I always read your posts on 4hv and I have kept up with your YouTube account and website, it's great to see that you are still doing awesome stuff!

Haha that faraday cage certainly was far from perfect and still very dangerous, but I felt safe *enough* with grounded metal mesh protecting my eyes and nether region though.

Anyway great to speak to you and to be part of another great forum! Thanks for the warm invitation and for helping the HV community in general. I wish you and your family a beautiful holidays!

Well thank you so kindly! It is truly great to be amongst other 4hv members. I started 4hv when I was 13 and I am so incredibly thankful for all fellow enthusiasts for getting me so deeply interested. I need to get on the IRC channel again! I used to spend hours speaking to others on there, thanks for letting me know!

If I may ask, was your name Weston on 4hv as well?

Hi to all in the forum!

I am a radio ham from Mid-Wales - UK, (MW0OMZ) and general fiddler with all things electronic, mechanical, etc.

I have been "charged" with producing various equipment and effects at a new visitor attraction in Bath - UK.

www.houseoffrankenstein.com

I've been researching tesla coils, jacobs ladders, etc with a view to using these, safely, in this public venue.

Looking forward to posting our progress here and hearing suggestions from forum members.

Hi all, for the purposes of this forum my name is AeraCura.

I graduated from Boise State University in Spring 2020 and live in Boise, Idaho as Electrical Engineer both professionally and as a hobby. I primarly work with embedded systems and other low voltage applications but look forward to learning more about the high voltage side of my profession.

I've enjoyed lurking and reading about others coils, as I gather parts to build my own large DRSSTC. So far I've built three UD2.7C PCAs, purchased a MidiStick from TMax Electronics, and have a pair of CM600 half-bridges in the mail.

Hi!
My name is Patrik and I am from Slovakia. I have been into electronics since primary school, where we were experimenting with with my friends with stuff we found in the physics cabinet. Since then 5 years passed and I got into electronic. I realy love power electronics, amplifiers, vacuum tube stuff, power inverters and so on.
I have build a SSTC a year ago, but since it blew up twice I started to do a bigger research and I found this forum, so I started reading some of the posts, and decided, that I shold join. And so, here I am. I have learned a lot since the last SSTC attempt and I hope to find some help here, if I would not know how to move forward anymore.

I want to apologize for my poor English, but it is not my primary language. I will try my best however to write correctly.

Well where to start, I'm a from Denmark, fiddling with electronic ac/dc, radio armature with the call "oz0sqt". I am a electrocuted and roasted electrician, that left me with quite bad nerve damages from the electricity. As electrician i have been working with voltages from 0V to 180KV. Now I'm studying to be a Software engineer, my interest are mostly embedded electronic.

Moin,
my name is Tim and I'm studying electrical engineering at the university of Koblenz (Germany).
Since I can remember, I always was "addicted" to electronics.
My parents like to say: "Son, you are living in a storage room, with sleeping possibility!". I think that describes it pretty well  ::)
Currently, I'm building a SSTC with miniBLOC/SOT227 MOSFETs and when I find some time I might finish my 6kJ Disc Launcher...

By the way, some of my German fellows might know me from the "mosfetkiller.de" forum.
Greetings

Hello everyone!

My name is Will and I am mostly here out of curiosity. I just recently got into tesla coils, so my knowledge base is pretty limited. I joined this forum mostly to find out if one could use an insulated wire as a breakout point for a coil, that way they could have the actual discharge occur much farther away from the actual coil and prevent it from frying itself. I have never seen this done but I can't understand why it couldn't be done. Hopefully one of you can help me!

Good question.  It can be done, but there are complications.  Even small SSTCs generate 50-100kV.  This requires thick insulation.  Larger DRSSTCs get up to 1MV where insulation thickness becomes impractical.

Second, even with insulation, there will be corona discharge.  Insulation still has capacitance.  At 30-300kHz of most coils, that capacitance conducts significant current.  The corona will degrade organic (rubber or plastic) insulation over time.  Also, if the point is to eliminate corona, a larger diameter breakout rod does about as well as the same diameter of insulation.

Still, insulation can block arcs forming.  At the end of the insulation (at the breakout point) where arcs do form, temperature gets high.  At least the end of the insulation needs to be ceramic or other high-temperature material.

Curiosity is great.  Have fun learning!  That is what we are all here to do.

Hi everyone,
My name is Moshe.
I am a naturopathic doctor from Canada. I am 47 years old.
I am interested in electricity and Tesla's work and other's work like in Rife beam ray device -
using frequencies for healing and affecting mood and emotion. https://teslamania.tv/robert_connolly_the_healing_field/#:~:text=To%20counter%20these%20claims%2C%20Tesla,flowing%20safely%20through%20his%20body.

I am doing research and study in this field.
I am working on a solution for one of my experiments, which I posted asking for help here on this forum -
https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?topic=1443.0

I also would like to study a course on basics of electricity, then branch into Tesla's work with high voltage, pulsing DC,
spark gaps, resonance, etc. so I can learn to do this myself.
Does anyone have a good suggestion about an online course where I can begin advancing my knowledge in electricity?

Thank you.

Hi Moshedan9,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm cetainly not an authority on this forum nor do I prettend to be. I would however, like to bring rule 1 to your attention. https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?topic=31.0

Quote
1. Free energy, electrogravitics, and all other types of pseudoscience are not allowed on any part of this site, nor are links to sites that deal primarily with these subjects. Discussion of such topics will only be allowed if someone has undeniable, 100% solid proof that this is not pseudoscience.

I'm not sure how your discussion would fall within this rule but i'll caution you that any discussion of healing will likely be met with an eye role.  ::)
