A DIY Flame gun
« on: September 28, 2023, 08:57:30 PM »
Hello guys!
Not really a high voltage project, but it was fun to build so let me share with you my DIY flame cannon.

It's an extremely simple device, that pushes against a can of starter fluid which releases the liquid at high speed into the air. The flow of the flammable liquid passes through a high voltage arc which ignites it.
Much more information about the device here: https://www.uhvlab.org/flamegun

Looks like it started leaking there at the end of the video.

I think I'd be worried about safety with that project.

Looks like it started leaking there at the end of the video.

I described this problem on my website. I added a fan that constantly blows on the top of the can which immediately extinguishes the fire on the can.
The same problem can be seen on the commercial "industry standard" devices.

When it comes to safety, I admit I was quite stressed with safety when I started this project, but after multiple hours of run time with no big issue, I got more comfortable :D

I think the can would have to be exposed to very high temperature for a long time to cause a big problem.
You can see that in videos like these where people tried to put aerosol can in a huge fire
