Title: Hello everyone
Post by: Max on March 08, 2017, 08:34:21 PM
Hello!

First of all, I'm sorry for my english - I've only learned it for a few years and it wasn't my best subject... I'm from Luxembourg, doing my last year of high school and I'm very interested in electronics, especially anything with high power (like TCs, induction heating, ...). At the moment, in the few minutes of free time I have, I'm working on my DRSSTC (which you can see in an earlier stage here:
/>
I'm quite surprised, that this forum was created. Most of its founders (all?) are members of the 4hv forum which has almost the same topics - so why a second one?

Oh and I'd like to comment some points of Mads Barnkob website - should I post for every little comment in the respective subforum or just here in the general discussion forum? Also, which category would be the most suitable for induction heating related topics? It's not really high voltage but doesn't mach to any general electronic subforum either.
Edit: I also don't see a suitable forum for vacuum tube amplifiers, etc.

Kind regards,
Max

Hi Max

Welcome to the forum and do not worry about your English, it is very good :)

Great DRSSTC, I hope we will see a thread about that in great detail.

You are right about 4hv, most of us are users from there, 4hv suffers from old software and migration is close to a fully manual task for many years of data. This is not really a second high voltage forum, there are many other, mostly some in other languages, but still :) We wanted to serve a modern forum software to the high voltage community, now, and not first in years to come when it would be possible.

Please discuss each subject in their respective subforums, there will be minor restructuring in the following weeks. Use the General electronics for anything that isn't related to high voltage or other specific forums, I changed the description a bit to reflect this.

Welcome Max

Really nice DRSSTC, I hope you'll write more about it

Hello,

That are some good reasons for a new forum. Didn't think at thatf, since there was no announcement in the 4hv forum.
Of course there are other forums ;) But normally admins/mods of one forum don't create another one about the same subjects. So the "second" was from the point of view of the admins/mods.

I'll only start posting about my DRSSTC here once it's done, which will probably be in 3-4 months (after my exams). For those who really want to see pics and specs see here http://forum.mosfetkiller.de/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=62896 (http://forum.mosfetkiller.de/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=62896) (interesting pics on pages 15, 17!, 22!)
Btw. one of those other great HV-forums out there!

Edit: Just encountered a strange bug in the reply editor (WYSIWYG mode). When the cursor is at the beginning of the line and I press backspace, the line doesn't only move to the end of the previous one as it should, but is also shrinked. And, possibly anoter bug, in the preview the [size] BBCode (generated due to the shrinking) is not considered. Oh, and I just wanted to attach some pics to show what I mean but somehow I'm to stupid for that. I select the file, it shows up below the select file field and then? If I hit the "(Insert Attachment1)" link, it adds "[ Attachment=1 ]" to my text but in the preview I see only  " [ Invalid attachment ] ". Maybe useful: I'm working with Chrome on Windows 8.1 x64.

Kind regards,
Max

I could not replicate the backspace/size tag error, in firefox

The attachment mod error, I did notice that there isn't a insert link for any, but the first attachment, you can however just write 2, 3 or 4 etc as it corresponds to the attachments, but this is not the intended functionality.

I contacted the mod developer about the error: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=525705.600

Hi all, I'm a long time 4hv member but I came here from Reddit so it was interesting seeing so many familiar usernames.

It's a shame about the 4hv software, I remember when it migrated to the software that it is running now back in 2005 - and that was a clean start from whatever it was running before that. I've been a lurker for the last few years, nothing much on at the moment.

Hi Avalanche, welcome.

4hv is still undergoing investigations to bring it into the future, I am also a part of a group that took up this work long ago, but things does not always move as fast as we wish for :)
