@davekni: I will try to run the coil in Staccato mode like Mads tried with his QCWDRSSTC. I programmed a Staccato Interrupter with an Arduino and i will propably try it in the next few days. I am interested in seeing how the absence of the permanent plasma between the pulses will influence discharge length. I might also try to increase the peak power but keep roughly the same RMS power.

@Uspring: Nice observation, that is probably the case. The exposure length on the still images is 50ms, so there are 5 AC halfwaves on the image. This is more then enough time to capture the meandering. Another reason why the spark looks thinner in the video is the very short exposure length. A lot of light and detail in the spark is lost because of this.

You appear to be finishing the ends of your secondaries with some type of potting resin. Do you have any info on this?
I'm a fan of the look and I'm wondering if there are any other advantages.

Thank you, its actually just electrical tape that i nicely wind over the secondary a few times at the end. The whole secondary gets a coat of epoxy resin which i prefer over other stuff because it creates a thick layer with a single coat.

I think I have now reached the level of how far I want to push this setup, the input current is 40A @ 400V. The fullbridge and the MMC only get barely warm. The primary and secondary temperature is also not too warm, but I am worried about the secondary arcing over.

The primary strike did not do any damage to the primary, the silicon wire really paid off. I looked for a few minutes but could not find any signs of where it hit the wire. I will definetly add a grounded aluminum mesh 4cm in front of the primary so I don't get strikes into it anymore.

I recently saw that jmartis2 ran a DRSSTC on uninterrupted half-wave rectified AC, and thought I'd share it in case it hasn't yet been seen by you all.

Your coil is really impressive, by the way, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. Do you know what the peak tank current is now? I saw that you said it was 60A peak earlier, which seems fairly low for a DRSSTC with such high on times at these powers.
