I have successfully used some toslink fiberoptic connectors in my DRSSTC for the i teruptwr signal. They worked well and without any issues. They are easily available in most places and can be even salvaged. And also they are pretty cheap even if you buy.

Yes its fiberoptic connector thats mainly used for audio but it works the same way as other common ones used for tesla coils but it is way cheaper.

if hfbr has a transmitter and receiver, how about toslink?

There are more but those are the most common ones ive seen. Find one thats cheapest. Also you can salvage them out of old electronics. Some Tvs, audio amps, AV receivers and such may have them
