I remember we used Applicom cards to read OPC, SNR could be an issue with grounding side, etc... not always easy to track, but at least those cards were rock solid

Hi Mads, just passing by and seeing this now, but if you need some info I have been working in the past with Wonderware products quite extensively and while it was a long time ago, some things may still apply... it was InTouch 10 + Archestra 7.x if I'm not wrong, but it must have evolved quite a bit

I can give some food for thought...
For some laser experiments I discussed with a guy who has several patents and is really into the discharge stuff...
If you want the best possible setup you have to go coaxial, and you use a capacitor formed from two concentric tubes of metal with the inter tubes area filled with deionized water and the extremities closed by machined PTFE caps + orings. This itself is a self healing spark gap which relies in breakdown of deionized water and intertube distance for discharge voltage. If your primary is really low inductance like circular foil, you can reach insane energy density...
It would be fun to experiment with this

Have a look at Vicor Flatpac power supplies, there are some 36V or 28V ones on ebay and sometimes they can be cheap

I'm also interested in this, I was looking to do the same kind of power supply some time ago... looking forward to see you developments Getting rid of the big iron is a graal for some people

Thanks Dave, This is what a low inductance bridge looks in my mind (I'm used to discharge physics a bit) Simply when you cobble something together on the desk you usually don't think to do it like that the first attempt Here I'm working iteratively, I just put some mosfets I had planned to use for low voltage tests to compare with the 10nF caps I had put previously and noticed that driven capacitance was not at play there and my GDT was probably fine as the damping resistor value did not play a role either I'll make two separate modules, and the bridge will be made on some spare double sided FR4... thanks for putting this back in my head

Ok thanks a lot, I'll ask those critters to move to a greener land The issue doesn't come from the enamel wire, same issue was raising with cat5 cable I'll post progress when I can, if the issue comes from the breadboard I might even get some first light to show I didn't even think of this cause, silly me...

Hello there, It has been some time since I did high voltage experimentation and I wanted to start over again... I'm putting together a simple SSTC for fun and have designed a simple driver from a 4046 oscillator for variable frequency 50% duty cycle oscillator, CD4049 for phase splitter, and UCC27321 pair driving a capacitor coupled GDT for a simple half bridge So far so good, the oscillator and driving part are working OK but I'm facing the traditional GDT issues with blowing UCC27321 I've gone the try and error route to have a GDT that will not fry everything but still have the lower UCC heating a bit, and a sawtooth ringing at the top of the mosfet gate signal... Anyone would have pointers on the reason of this ringing which takes all the top waveform without damping over time? GDT core is unknown material but 10 turns of CAT5 cable goes 0.29mH (I also have others with nanohenries which seemed not ok to me) Pictures attached :

Same for me, and organizing my local Repair Café I'm also cluttered with a load of stuff, but cannot get rid of it either because of the reasons you mention... And when I'm proposed to get some stuff for free with the possibility to potentially use it one day, or even have an idea of a probable usage, it's over and it's part of my collection before I can think about the hassle of keeping up with the stock I'm even naturally inclined to do social engineering to prepare people to propose their extra stuff, just in case Not speaking about the old stock of nails I once bought for 5% the price... need some specific nail size? name it, I have it... more than 40 boxes of several kilos for a couple dozen euros, I couldn't resist

Just have a look at Sam's Laser FAQ on flash lamps and other gas filled tubes, I think you will find it pretty educative
He is also a really nice guy to deal with

I use an unfocused bluray laser pointer (10-20mW is sufficient) with an expending lens attached, it cures in a couple seconds... just use googles for not getting blind... dirt cheap and efficient

I wish her to success...
Don't forget that anyone with physical access to a WPS button can have access to the network, and that this process itself can be spoofed from the street... I don't recall references but I read that once in Hackaday.
An idea : are there some white hat association in her country that would be able to back her off with technical justifications? Maybe some bottle at sea would be of some use... Hackaday security community seems also interesting to contact, try their hackaday.io chat you'll certainly have some reactions there.
Good luck!

I downloaded it already and tried a few small things... I find it nice, but will stay with my LTSpice for a moment...
Most interesting is the 64-bit executable which will speed up computations in my opinion, but othersiwe the interface is a bit cloudy to me

current limiting may or may not be good with valves... in the case of a small preamp this is OK but if you add it on the same B+ transformer than a push-pull for instance, current variation will give global DV variation and gain/operation points of preamp will vary accordingly, preserving proportionality
I'll be interested if you elaborate on the mosfet and produce a working circuit, I'm into valves right now too but something specific that I'll document when a prototype will be running

I have bought a small lot of spare cores to experiment with that look the right size, but will keep an eye on yours when scaling up
I must generate 350~400V from 40VDC, but might give a go at 800~1kV after that

Thanks a lot
Aren't they a bit large for my use? I would say they could easily go up to 500W and more no?

I would simulate R3 as a sine current source and repeat it with different ranges of frequencies, just to be sure Maybe the use of a high voltage mosfet could also be interesting? Otherwise nice design, I've seen several and your is on the good side

Hi all
For a prototype I'm developing I would need some transformer cores with forms for 200W max, maybe 300W, to be used in a ZVS type oscillator
Anyone has some in stock, or a small range of spares that he would be willing to sell?
Thanks a lot!
