choosing suitable inductor sizing (ZVS DRIVER)

ill be using some scrap hy4008b mosfets. 40v TC=100°C 138Amps. here's a link to the datasheet https://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/download/1146258/HUAYI/HY4004B.html. I have a boatload of 12awg house wire and some big ferrite inductors to wind around.

I am unsure how technical I can get I believe they are there is a choke to limit the total current draw from going over the mosfets limits. would I calculate the ideal inductor value by taking the res frequency of the primary and finding the ideal reactance to keep the circuits current draw in check? am I losing anyone here or am I making sense in my goal?

So theoretically I would want a pretty minimal inductance because I am limited by the 40v rating of the mosfets so I would need to keep voltage low and current high. would 12v be my limit? I have a collection of beefy 16+ amp 12v power supplies and some 20v power supplies. I assume the resonant voltage in the primary is much larger then the source voltage so I can not push these mosfets anywhere near the upper limits of 40v.

You are right about the mosfets, I would not really use them for this. 40v fet is way too low for this driver and being limited at 12v will decrease the performance quite a lot. inductors are there to seperate the high frequency resonant circuit from the power supply and dampen inrush current. The value is not super critical, typically 100uH is enough. Just make sure it isnt too low that it does not do its job or super high that it would start limiting power. If you decide to buy mosfets, my recommendation would be to use at least irfp250s here so you can get it to work at 24v or more.

thank you for the reply. I will wait until I happen to find some better mosfets while scrapping e-waste. in the meantime I already built the most of the circuit so it would just be me waiting for me to swap out better mosfets. I still need to wind the inductors. I am using one of those common component testers from eBay the little kits you assemble. I am unsure about its accuracy. I have not learned how to calculate inductor sizes formally but more importantly I don't know what my toroid's material is made of so I couldn't.
