DRSSTC MIDI

Hello everyone,
greetings from Czech Republic.
Today I completed my first attempt of making DRSSTC, it was just quick temporary project to get some experience about DRSSTC. It went quite well, I use UD1.3b, halfbridge of FGA60N65SMD, OCD 230A at 370 kHz. I am satisfied with results up to 40cm sparks, but now I start planning next project - middle sizzed DRSSTC.
I have a plan, I may have to ask a few questions in the future. But to the original question. I want it to play music. With my SSTCs I used just Attiny85 which I programmed to output square wave signal of changing frequency depending on tone and fed the output to NE555 to adjust the duty cycle. But now I want to use MIDI just everyone does. But the problem is I have actually no idea what midi is, how it works or so. I google something but it was not very useful, it was just some theory with no scope shot or so. Is will be really nice if someone can explain it to me little bit. Is it possible to be as simple as sticking some usb to computer and play written tones in some program? I really appreciate any help with some circuit diagram or so. Thank you very much.

Midi is like sheet music. Instead of it containing raw sound wave data like most other music files it has information on what notes should be played.

So for example if you want to play a A4 note, midi gives you a message like this:
NOTE_ON CHANNEL_1 69 127
The 69 is the note ID of A4, and the 127 is the velocity (or volume).
When it should be turned of you get the same but with NOTE_OFF instead of NOTE_ON.

In theory it is trivial to build a midi interrupter: Receive the midi data, look for NOTE_ON and NOTE_OFF, set up some timers in a uC to turn the output on and off at the note frequency and with a proper on-time and potentially listen to some other midi commands (like pitch bend). That would result in something sounding similar to the oneTesla interrupter (or really most other interrupters). If you want a little bit more sophisticated sound you can include effects like ADSR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Envelope_(music)) or modulation which will make things sound a lot better

You'll also need to think about where to get the data from. Usually this is a pc with a midi player software (I use anvil studio for example). If you use a small arduino for this you will have to use a software that can send midi data out over serial, or you can use a uC with a usb module and use an appropriate library to get the data out directly.
