Hi all, this is shrad, migrated from 4hv to here since the place was not alive anymore...

To introduce myself a bit in this new place, I'm an IT guy, electronics guy since the young age, I have had enthusiasm for high voltage for many years, I'm a science enthusiast and self learned in many subjects like lasers, spectroscopy, valve amplifiers, etc...

I'm interested in all technical aspects of all domains, active in local associations and launched some local things like a collective vegetable garden and a repair café in my village

Last but not least, currently workin at a major grid management company in Brussels as a contractor, which is somewhat related to the interest I have in HV :)

Hi Shrad and welcome to HVF

Got any high voltage projects going on for the hobby or professionally?

Not for the moment, except maybe some tube amplifiers which are waiting to be designed and built (some GU50 would be glad to go out of their box)

Right now I'm distilling ideas on a guitar amp based on a mosfet follower with high amplitude preamp to experiment on a more qualitative approach of guitar amps

Hello everyone. I've been doing electronics on and off for about 10 years. I've been in the power supply industry for 5 years now.

I made a small solid state tesla coil in college in 2010. Ever since then I've been trying to design something new, but could never keep up with Steve Ward and everyone else- especially on such a low budget. Between that and life taking me through many twists and turns, I never really got anything else done.

Now that I have worked a few power electronics jobs, including high voltage and radar, and my life has stabilized, I'm ready to get back into it! The catch is that I don't have much time, but I have a pretty good budget. Not to mention, I'm actually knowledgeable about the stuff, now!

My first goal is to make a handheld lightning gun, like Steve Ward's. I can't wait to post my progress here.

Hi there. I'm another shiftee from 4HV.org.  Came looking for a more active forum.
I've been a professional electronics engineer for over 30 years now, but I've been messing with electronics since I was about 8. I'm also interested in physics and chemistry, PC gaming, gardening and sea fishing from my kayak.
I live in New Zealand with my wife, two daughters, three cats,  two rabbits, 7 frogs, and however many wild ducks my daughter is feeding at present.

Hi All,

So I am Jeff and I live near to Bristol in the UK.

I have always been interested in electronics but decided to go for Chemical Engineering as a career, now I try to keep the hobby going with a handful of projects.

I found this forum while looking for info to help with my 2500w induction heater project - lava maker as my 6 year old son calls it!

I have attached a picture of my latest induction heater setup, this used 8 off 750W 12V server PSU (2 in parallel and 4 series) to give a de-rated 3kW unit operating in 12, 24, 36 and 48V increments. The first unit with 4 PSU in series needed to be de-rated and didn't survive!

I also included a solid state relay for simple on/off control, 50A RCD for over current and a bunch of 4mm RC bullet connectors and 10AWG silicone cable.

Looking forward to many interesting discussion.

Welcome to all new members on HVF, good to see you pop inhere and give a word or two about yourself.

@Johnf, I hope we get a share of your huge experience, that is a serious business end you are in where high voltage/current/frequency is actual in commercial use.

@Coupling, A portable handheld QCW is no easy task, looking forward to see how you execute that project!

@Twospoons, do you have any projects going on that we will get to see?

@Jeff B, the induction heater threads have really taken off with experiments with the, now so cheap, Chinese units, so good to see another chime in with more experience on using these.

My current project list isn't terribly exciting : High CRI LED lighting for my wife's art studio, a tube phono preamp so I can hear all my old vinyl, and some improvements to my 3d printer.
I suppose I should dig out my half-built VTTC and finish that off. Its been gathering dust for far too long.

Hi.  My real name is Rich. Grew up and have lived most of my life around San Francisco Bay, California.  Have used the name klugesmith at the 4hv.org forum for about 1000 posts over 10 years, and on ebay long before that. Day jobs in recent decades have been about time-domain electronic instruments and serial data communication.  Now 500 mV is a "large" digital voltage swing, and 10 ps errors get attention in meetings.

High voltage (where electricity can go outside the wires without help) is a hobby, along with mechanical and optical tinkering etc.  Especially when there are teaching opportunities.  I hope this forum will be an inspiration to do more making.

Hello everybody,

I'm a French electronics hobbyist, and I'm in the last year of high school.
I fell into electronics when I was 9 years old, assembling Velleman kits and tearing down broken appliances for the components.

I joined this forum to discuss about HV and electronics

I'm interested in HV, radio frequency, power electronics and classic electronics.

Welcome both klugesmith and ElextroXa, it is good to see that we still have the old-timers and experienced coming along with relatively young people to the electronics hobby!

Looking forward to see your projects or questions :)

Hi. Im a 19 years old guy interested in nearly everything technical or scientific.
I was thinking about building my first SSTC for a long while. Now I managed to buy most of the components that i need.
All my project began with a thought of reconstructing a interesting machine from scratch in the simplest form possible.
Thanks to that and years of failing my way to working solutions i have gained tons of experience.
One of my first HV projects was a push-pull TV trafo plasma speaker. It still works and I'm still impressed it didn't blew up.
I will talk about my creations in the dedicated topics.

Hi folks!  ;)
My name is Sebastian and I live in Massachusetts in the US. I'm 17 and have been into engineering and science my whole life. I can't believe how many other high schoolers are on this forum! (I thought I was alone. lol) In terms of my hobby, I've started doing electronics projects about a year ago and discovered the world of HV by accident because I was reading about spark gap radio and then somehow found out about SGTCs. Since I don't have a flyback, I decided to make a SSTC instead. Last week I finally got it working! (though it's poorly optimized). My goal is to turn my tesla coil into a guitar amplifier by pulse width modulating the interrupter signal with audio.

Thanks for the welcome!  ;D

Me! I'm fascinated with Tesla, as I'm sure we all are. I don't just want to build a better Tesla Coil but to continue his research and use the tech in all aspects of life.

I am 37 as of this writing, 2019, live in Florida with my Wife and am a computer programmer.

Hello All,

My name is Brian. I am some kind of software / hardware developer (IoT stuff mostly) from Wisconsin. I have a two-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a local technical college. I have been interested in high voltage since I was a kid, and have made a marginally successful spark-gap Tesla coil with hopes to complete many more projects in the future with the help of this amazing forum.

Nice to meet you!
